The Consumer Council published its latest issue Consumer Report, featuring two test reports on bottled water and hand cream. Consumer may check the reports on the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo) or the Council’s WeChat account, an article on the precautions of buying travel service online is also available.

Quality of 30 bottled water samples satisfactory

Consumers’ demand for bottled water tend to increase in summer, the Consumer Council and the Department of Food Safety of The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) co-tested the quality of bottled water annually to prevent any food safety risk that may arise and to safeguard consumer rights.

The 30 samples tested in 2019 include different volumes of distilled water, mineral water, and purified water, all tested samples pass the quality standard of IAM’s Department of Food Safety, testing criteria include their appearance, colour, and turbidity, they are also tested for contents of chemicals, heavy metals and coliform bacteria, etc..

Consumers are suggested to check the product label and packaging when purchasing bottled water, it is also suggested to bring one’s own water bottle to help save the environment.

The bottled water test report of 2019 is now available in issue 311 Consumer Report.

Macao and Zhuhai co-tested hand cream

The first cooperation project between Macao Consumer Council and Zhuhai Consumer Council of this year is the hygiene and safety test of hand cream, the two Councils co-tested 43 samples of hand cream and the result of all samples is satisfactory.

Details of the test report on the 20 hand cream samples from Macao can be found in this issue of Consumer Report.

The two Consumer Councils will continue to conduct tests on different products for their quality and hygienic condition to safeguard the health and safety of consumers in the two regions.

Attention needed when purchasing travel service online

An article on the precautions of buying travel service online is featured in issue 311 Consumer Report, consumers are advised to choose websites that are safe and read carefully the service terms, contents, payment methods, cancellation policy and any other restrictions before making any transaction, special attention should also be paid to the transaction currency when making transaction on overseas websites.

The latest Consumer Report also includes a feature on the definition of consumers and the rights of consumers.

Consumers may access the magazine online on the Council’s official website and WeChat official account. Consumer Report is now also available free of charge at the Council (Av. Horta e Costa, N.º 26, Edf. Clementina Ho), and the service counter of the Council at Macao SAR Government Service Centre (Rua Nova da Areia Preta, Nº52), Public Information Centre at Vicky Plaza, libraries, and bookstores.
