More than 32,000 new electors may vote in the first Legislative Assembly election of the SAR in September.
Registration of electors, which started on 17 January, had ended on 26 May.
During this period, more than 45,000 applications of natural person electors were received, among which more than 32,000 are new electors, increasing the total number of natural person electors to over 160,000.
Meanwhile, more than 300 applications of corporation electors were approved, bringing the total number of corporation electors up to over 600.
In order to be registered as natural person elector, one has to be over 18 with permanent residency of Macau for more than seven years. At the mean time, associations affirmed by the Chief Executive as representative of public well being may be registered as corporation electors.
The electoral committee was set up on 22 May/; to handle election related affairs and complaints.
The first Legislative Assembly Election of the Macau SAR is to be held on 23 September, Chief Executive Edmund Ho announced earlier.
In accordance with the Basic Law, the upcoming second Legislative Assembly of the SAR will have 27 seats. Among which, number of seats for appointed legislators will remain as seven while seats for directly elected and indirectly elected legislators will both increase to ten.
