Starting today (6^th December) until 8^th December, the 4^th International Film Festival & Awards‧Macao (referred to as “IFFAM” or the “Film Festival”) is staging the IFFAM Industry Hub at the Macao Cultural Centre and the Macao Museum of Art for three days in a row, aspiring to create an effective exchange platform for film industry professionals from worldwide and make partnerships happen for film project development, production, distribution, investment and so forth. The IFFAM Industry Hub once again features the IFFAM Project Market, Work-in-Progress Presentation and Macao Forum this year. Over 200 industry professionals from more than 30 countries and regions have registered for participation in the Industry Hub.

14 film projects contend for Project Market Awards

14 teams presented their film projects to industry delegates in the Public Pitching session held today (6^th December) at the IFFAM Project Market, a key highlight of the Industry Hub. The 14 film projects include Blue Mountain, Dead Packet, Dear Wormwood, Investigator Mendonza, Drum Wave, Escape to Oz, Everybody Leaves, Nocebo, Perspectives, The Convenience Store, The Day and Night of Brahma, The Fortune Tower, Uk Kei and Welcome. Among the above, Investigator Mendonza and The Fortune Tower are both local films directed by Maxim Bessmertny and Harriet Wong respectively. The 14 film projects will contend for the Best Project Award, Best Co-production Award, Creative Excellence Award and Macao Spirit Award in tandem with a total cash prize of 40,000 US dollars. Winners will be unveiled in the IFFAM Project Market Awards Ceremony on 8^th December.

Dedicated to bridging the gap between different parts of the globe as an initiative that gains its footing in Asia while setting eyes on the world, the IFFAM Project Market helps international film talent in search of investors, distributors or partners for their new film projects. A platform is set for them to engage in business matching and tap into partnership opportunities. Invited film industry professionals (buyer/seller/distributor/investor) will meet individually with directors/producers of the film projects at the Project Meetings session for potential cooperation. Over half of the film projects lined up by the Project Market in the past reached partnerships for substantial productions, and many of them will soon embark on the process of filming.

WIP Presentation continues

Newly launched last year to present projects at the post-production stage to industry delegates, the programme of Work-in-Progress (WIP) Presentation is once again held to assist these projects in securing sufficient funds for completion of filming and post-production, meeting with distribution agents and exploring cooperation opportunities such as screening in film festivals. The programme is set to raise awareness about these projects in the circle of films. One of the selected film projects in IFFAM Project Market 2016, The Long Walk, participated in the Work-in-Progress Presentation last year. The film production was later completed and will be showcased to audiences in World Panorama, one of the non-competition sections in this edition of IFFAM. The successful completion of the film project proves the effective platform offered by the Industry Hub for filmmakers and the advantages delivered by the Film Festival.

The three film projects selected for the Work-in-Progress Presentation include Low Season directed by Naruebordee Wechakum, The East directed by Jim Taihuttu and Yakuza Princess directed by Vicente Amorim.

Macao Forum unleashes new inspirations

In the Macao Forum to unfold next afternoon (7^th December), film industry professionals will convene for a series of closed-door discussion sessions on the following topics – “The Future of Cinema: Keeping Theatrical Alive”, “Female Power: Is It Here to Stay?” and “Subscription Mentality: Is Independent Film the Natural Victim?”. The closed-door sessions will enable industry delegates from diverse backgrounds to enlighten each other with new ideas and varying perspectives. Following the Forum, all participants of the Industry Hub are welcome to join the Forum Presentation which will highlight the fruit of the discussions at the Auditorium on the first floor of the Macao Museum of Art from 17:10 – 18:00 on the same day. The presentation will be conducted in English without interpretation.
