The International Film Festival & Awards Macao (referred to as "IFFAM" or the "Film Festival") once again become a co-op film festival of Fantastic 7, a Cannes Film Market initiative that has taken place online this year during 22nd to 26th June. IFFAM took the opportunity to present a Macao start-up film project.
The Fantastic 7 presents seven “fantastic” genre projects from seven different festivals and fosters emerging talents and connects them with potential business partners by creating a privileged space for dialogue and exchange.
IFFAM joins Sitges, Bucheon International Film Festival, Cairo International Film Festival, Festival Internacional de Cine en Guadalajara, SXSW South by Southwest and Toronto International Film Festival in the festival lineup. Representing IFFAM, the Macao project “Foreign Cop” and 6 other projects endorsed by each festival has been presented during a pitching session held on 24th June at the Marché du Film Online. Furthermore, juries and professionals interested in the projects will organize meetings with project creators in speed meetings on 26th June.
IFFAM this year had put forward the local Macao project “Foreign Cop” directed by Maxim Bessmertny and produced by Bessmertny and Jorge Cordeiro dos Santos. This crime thriller, currently in development, is set in 1980 Macao where gangsters, cabaret dancers, and slot machines coexist in an exciting atmosphere of neon lights, kitsch architecture and early consumer electronics. A private investigator Mendonza arrives in the city from Portugal to catch the robbers that dared to perform a casino heist in the city’s memory, brutally killing a loyal casino employee.
The highlight of Cannes Film Festival – the Cannes Film Market (Marché du Film) takes place online from 22nd to 26th June this year. The organizer provides real-time film screenings, market events and business matchings. Among them, film distributors from around the globe actively participate in the meetings. In addition, many outstanding film works also took the opportunity to promote and continue to push forward the development of film industries.
