The International Film Festival & Awards Macao (IFFAM) is proud to announce its selection for We Are One: A Global Film Festival, the digital festival produced and organised by Tribeca Enterprises and YouTube and featuring programming from 21 of the world’s great festivals. Highlights from the first four years of IFFAM will play in the digital film event exclusively on YouTube which runs May 29 to June 7.
The 10-day event will celebrate global voices, elevate films that have the power to create change and bring audiences from around the world together to create meaningful connections. Assembling some of the world’s most talented artists, storytellers and curators around a central effort to provide entertainment and offer relief in the form of supporting organizations responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival will present over 100 feature and short films, documentaries, animations, along with talks with famous film industry names, among others, running at YouTube.com/WeAreOne.
IFFAM selection for the global digital film festival:
Playing on June 2 at 8pm (Macao time) is Sisterhood (Macao SAR), Tracy Choi’s directorial debut which won the audience award in competition at the 2016 IFFAM.
Playing on June 3 at 7.30pm (Macao time) is Lonely Encounter (Hong Kong SAR/ Macao SAR), Jenny Wan’s short film which won the best short film of “Shorts Competition” at IFFAM 2019.
Playing on June 4 at 7pm (Macao time) is Dirty Laundry (Macao SAR), Maxim Bessmertny’s comic short which was one of the Years Of Macao compendium which played in the “20th Anniversary Macao Special Presentations” session at IFFAM 2019.
Playing on June 4 at 7.30pm (Macao time) is Wrath of Silence (China), Xin Yukun’s dark thriller set in northern China which was the winner of jury and actor prizes of the Competition Session at IFFAM 2017.
Playing on June 6 at 7pm (Macao time) is A City Called Macau (China), the 2019 film from great Fifth Generation director Li Shaohong which was a Special Presentation at IFFAM 2019.
IFFAM artistic director Mike Goodridge said: “We are so happy to be a part of this wonderful global event showcasing great world cinema. Our selection includes some of our favourite films from the region in the first four years of our festival, and we are delighted to be showing different sides of Macao in four of the five films. Hats off to Tribeca and YouTube for bringing this group of festivals together in this challenging year and reminding us all why cinema from around the world matters."
The global festival will include programming curated by and unique to the identity of all participating festival partners, which are, in addition to IFFAM: Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Berlin International Film Festival, BFI London Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival, Guadalajara International Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), Jerusalem Film Festival, Mumbai Film Festival (MAMI), Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, Locarno Film Festival, Marrakech International Film Festival, New York Film Festival, San Sebastian International Film Festival, Sarajevo Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, Sydney Film Festival, Tokyo International Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival, and Venice Film Festival.
True to its mission, We Are One: A Global Film Festival will seek to bring artists, creators and curators together around an international event that celebrates the exquisite art of storytelling. In doing so, it will aim to provide not only solace and entertainment for audiences during a time when it’s needed most, but also opportunities for these individuals to give back through donations to the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, UNHCR, Save the Children,, Doctors Without Borders, Leket Israel, GO Foundation and Give2Asia, among others. Audiences will be able to donate to COVID-19 relief efforts through a donate button or link on every film page.
