The signing ceremony between the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of Iceland on the Agreement of Readmission of Persons with Unauthorized Stays took place in the Macao SAR Government Headquarters on 20 February.

The Government of the Macao SAR was granted the authorization from the Central People’s Government of the People’s Republic of China to conclude the abovementioned agreement. The Secretary for Administration and Justice, Ms. Florinda da Rosa Silva Chan, and the Ambassador of Iceland in Beijing, Mr. Gunnar Snorri Gunnarsson, representing the Government the Macao SAR and the Government of Iceland respectively, signed the agreement.

Both parties deem that the agreement is on the basis of reciprocal principle. To arrange those who do not fulfill or no longer fulfill the requirements of immigration, stay or abode in the Macao SAR or Iceland, an efficient and effective procedure of identity verification and repatriation will be established

The abovementioned agreement will be effective from the first day of the following month upon confirmation of the completion of relevant procedures by both parties in writing.
