Florinda Chan Acknowledge Success in Dengue Fever campaign

Secretary for Administration and Justice, Florinda Chan acknowledged, today (9 March), the joint efforts of Government agencies, civic associations and the public that enable the success of the Anti Dengue Fever Campaign held in the past months.

She also urged the public to stay alert and continue with the prevention.

Florinda Chan, who coordinated the ad hog group against dengue fever, said during the opening of the tenth “Clean Macao Annual Campaign” that since the establishment of the ad hog group in 2001, following the first record of Dengue Fever in the SAR, the group had took a series of measures to prevent the spreading of the disease and to call for the public’s awareness.

She emphasised that prevention against dengue fever requires the constant attention, especially during rain seasons, which are more favourable to mosquitoes.

She said that the “Clean Macao Campaign” also contribute to the prevention of dengue fever. And this campaign that promotes the cleaning of the whole city, has achieved positive results in the past 10 years.

She underlined that the Government would continue to promote in schools, residential quarters, and to encourage the public to cooperate with the Government and make Macao a beautiful and clean city.

The President of the Institute for Civic Affairs, Lau Si Ioi, said that the institute would intensify the cooperation with other public services in this year’s Clean Macao Campaign, as well as the Anti Dengue Fever Campaign adding that they would promote the participation of schools, associations and the public, as well intensifying the application of fines to offenders.

On the same occasion, the director of the Health Services, Koi Kuok Ieng, stated that the services would continue to promote strategies against dengue fever, such as promoting the participation of the population, consolidate and reinforce the community network, in order to intensify the prevention of dengue fever.
