The Chief Executive, Mr Sam Hou Fai, visited on Wednesday (4 March) the Office of the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) in Beijing, where he listened to a briefing on the Office’s operations and ongoing work, and issued guidance for future tasks.

Mr Sam is visiting Beijing for the opening meeting of the fourth session of the 14th National People’s Congress, which takes place on Thursday (5 March).

During the visit, Mr Sam had cordial conversations with the Office’s staff, extended Chinese New Year greetings, and encouraged all personnel to work together in meeting effectively the Office’s responsibilities.

While there, the Chief Executive received a work report from Acting Director of the Office, Ms Han Jing, gaining a deeper understanding of its operational arrangements. He then toured the Office’s work areas, greeting staff, and expressing interest in their professional and personal wellbeing. He encouraged them to remain passionate about their work, to continue providing dedicated advisory and support services in Beijing for Macao residents, and to uphold the good image of the MSAR Government.

Noting the Office is an important window for the MSAR Government on the Chinese mainland, Mr Sam called on all members of the Office to work in unity to strengthen its role as a platform and as a liaison bridge. This would help the MSAR Government further its communication and coordination with relevant Ministries and Committees of the Central Government. In particular, he highlighted the importance of proactive engagement, and of facilitating cooperation between Macao and the Chinese mainland, in areas such as trade and economic matters, tourism, culture, and youth exchanges, thereby supporting the MSAR in more effectively integrating into the country’s overall development.
