Police Forces of the Macau SAR and Police of Guangdong Province are to form a joint task force to combat drugs trafficking and arms smuggling, said Cheong Kuok Va, Secretary for Security today.

This was decided during the 3rd Guangdong-Macau Police Joint Meeting held last week in Guangdong's northern city Shaoguan, said Secretary Cheong.

He also said that police authority would invite experts from Yunnan Province to assist with anti-narcotic training course held in the Academy of Security Forces, adding that more resources will be allocated in fighting against drugs.

The Secretary also said that the Anti-Narcotics Unit of the Judicial Police would be up-graded as a division.

Cheong Kuoc Va attended the 13th anniversary celebration of the Academy of Security Forces this morning.

During the ceremony, Hoi Sio Iong, the director of the academy said that the 7th course for police officers would be held next year to accommodate the demands of new officers, adding that more legal training would be introduced to the course.

Up to now, 168 officers have graduated from the academy in the 6 courses held previously, and are serving various posts in the Security Forces of Macau.
