The Secretary for Administration and Justice, Florinda Chan, emphasized that the continuation of judicial training was necessary in order to consolidate the rule of law guaranteed by the MSAR Basic Law.
A team of competent and professional magistrates was already in the service of the SAR, said Florinda Chan, yet training should be continued and the Government would continue to take efforts.
The Secretary today (29 May) inaugurated the new Judicial and Legal Training Center facilities and the first training programme for judges and public prosecutors.
She said that the Government was keen on legal training in addition to other training for civil servants. She was confidant that these new facilities would provide better conditions for instructing the trainees.
The director of the Training Center, Prof. Manuel Trigo, said that more professional training courses would be offered in the near future to provide training for private notaries, law translators and lawyer trainees. He added that new lecturers, including bilingual professionals, would join the center.
The Judicial and Legal Training Center was the outcome of the former training center for judges and public prosecutors. The new center is a professional public organization with academic autonomy, providing specific training in various areas of the law.
