As a professional exhibition accredited by the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI), the Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition (MIECF) is now embracing its 16th anniversary. Every year, MIECF keeps abreast of the environmental policies of the Central Government and the Macao SAR Government to introduce new elements into its activities and constantly enhances its internationalism and professionalism by attracting international exhibitors and buyers. The 2024MIECF has gathered over 60 international exhibitors from 13 countries and regions, seeking to inject more green momentum into the green transformation of the “1+4” key industries and the exploration of international business opportunities in the environmental sector, thereby continuously leveraging MIECF’s role as a green platform. In addition, about 80 international buyers from nearly 30 countries and regions will come to Macao to participate in the event and procurement meetings.

Keeping introducing new elements in line with the latest policies to promote green co-operation and development

Every year, MIECF introduces new elements in response to the latest environmental policies and green economic development of the country and the Macao SAR, with a view to constructing a platform for green exchange and co-operation. For instance, the 2019MIECF introduced a “Greenovation Zone” to support green innovative technologies and youth entrepreneurship. In 2021, in the face of the pandemic, online business matching and online protocol signing were launched to explore online green business opportunities. In 2022, an “Eco-friendly Tableware Zone” and a new energy vehicle test drive activity were available in line with the relevant environmental policies of the Macao SAR Government; meanwhile, working towards the country’s “dual carbon” goals, the event established itself as the first professional exhibition in Macao to achieve “carbon neutrality” through carbon calculations and carbon footprint offsetting.

To further extend the effectiveness of carbon reduction, the 2023MIECF introduced for the first time “carbon inclusive” elements, added a “Green Living Zone” and “Green and Low-Carbon Project Zone”, and held “multi-venue events” to consolidate the MICE alliance between Macao and Hengqin and facilitate the “industry + MICE” cross-sectoral synergy.

In order to accelerate the green transformation of the “1+4” key industries and support the Long-Term Decarbonisation Strategy of Macao, among other important environmental policies of the Macao SAR Government, the 2024MIECF has launched a “Green Smart Industries Exhibition Area”, “Green Transformation Service Counter” and “Green Partnership” Programme, and integrated ESG (environmental, social and governance) elements into both the theme of the forum and the content of the exhibition, with the aim of driving green and sustainable development.

Assisting enterprises in expanding business opportunities in overseas environmental markets with enhanced internationalism and professionalism

After years of development, MIECF has become increasingly professional and international and has seen a growing number of international exhibitors. The 2023MIECF gathered over 400 exhibitors, with 40 of them being international exhibitors, representing a recovery to nearly 70% of the pre-pandemic levels (55 international exhibitors in 2019).

Compared to 2023, this year’s MIECF has seen more active participation of international exhibitors, with the number growing to 62. Many of the exhibitors are from Portuguese-speaking, Southeast Asian and Nordic countries. Meanwhile, about 80 international buyers from nearly 30 countries and regions will participate in the event and procurement meetings in Macao, with a view to tapping into more environmental business opportunities in the international market and extending their business to overseas markets through MIECF’s green platform.

Hosted by the Macao SAR Government, the 2024MIECF will be held on three consecutive days from 28 to 30 March at Cotai Expo Halls, The Venetian Macao, under the theme of “Reaching the Dual Carbon Goals through Green Transformation”.
