Upon completion of expansion construction, the Macao Grand Prix Museum under Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO)’s management is open partially for trial operation. Today (2 April) marks the first day of public admission to the Museum. Residents and visitors alike enjoyed various exhibits and interactive multimedia facilities about Macau Grand Prix.
Diverse exhibits in the spotlight
On the first day of public admission in trial operation, visitors explored the Museum in an orderly fashion. MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes and Deputy Director Ricky Hoi inspected the trial operation on site, welcomed and conversed with visitors to hear their museum experience.
The Museum casts the spotlight upon diverse captivating exhibits such as “Motorcycle: Deconstructed” on the second floor. The motorcycle driven by Spanish rider Raül Torras in Macau Grand Prix is broken down into various components hung in the air for visitors to grasp a full picture of motorcycle mechanics. Visitors can also find “Ayrton Senna”, an artwork created by Alexandre Farto (also known as Vhils). Vhils is a Portuguese graffiti artist renowned for his unique visual language. He crafted this wall portrait of Ayrton Senna da Silva as a tribute to the Brazilian racing driver’s historic moment of victory in the first edition of Formula 3 Macau Grand Prix in 1983.
The exhibits offer visitors a window into Macau Grand Prix, boosting not just the "tourism + sports" synergy in destination branding but also communication and preservation of the motorsport culture that comes with this iconic event. Visitors can get immersed in the educational fun experience of the interactive multimedia game facilities and racing scenario displays.
Enrich museum highlights through diverse partnerships
The Macao Grand Prix Museum strives to widen its spectrum of highlights through partnerships with different entities including a local higher education institute. The University of Saint Joseph was invited to create 3D prints of racing car models as well as an introduction in the form of braille display, to enrich the experience of visually-impaired visitors through their sense of touch. To foster “tourism + culture and creativity” integration and extend the tourism industry chain, the Museum also offers an opportunity for local cultural and creative talent to radiate their creativity by designing and producing museum souvenirs tailored for sale at the museum store. Furthermore, the extraordinary comic work “Racing Fight”, designed and drawn specially for the Museum by local creative artist Chan Man, is featured at the basement, bringing to life a series of past GT racing cars darting across the breadth of the circuit in a whirlwind, against the backdrop of scenery along the way.
During trial operation, the Macao Grand Prix Museum is open for the public to book visits online within quotas on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays in April as well as daily in May (closed on Tuesdays), drawing lots of ticket buyers so far. Tickets for April have been sold out. Interested parties can log in to MGTO’s online ticketing system (eticket.macaotourism.gov.mo) and purchase tickets for May in advance. Ticket holders should note that by advanced booking, they can visit the Museum at their selected time slots in the morning or afternoon: 10:00 — 13:00 (last admission at 12:00) and 15:00 — 18:00 (last admission at 17:00). During trial operation, the Museum provides daily sessions of public guided service. Visitors are welcome to sign up on site for the guided service session conducted in their preferred language at designated time slots. Due to limited quotas, the guided service will be signed up on a first-come, first-served basis. In addition, the Macao Grand Prix Museum features a variety of interactive multimedia game facilities. Every pit pass grants a museum visitor an opportunity to experience each game once. To ensure safety, certain games are restricted to museum visitors who meet the specified range of age and height, whereas some may not be suitable for visitors with certain conditions. Visitors are advised to follow the instructions given by museum staff. The Macao Grand Prix Museum rigorously follows the pandemic prevention guidelines issued by Health Bureau. Visitors are required to wear masks throughout the visit, have their temperature checked and present Macau health code of the day upon entry.
