Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) hosted a spring luncheon in Hong Kong today (2 March) to express its gratitude to travel industry operators in Hong Kong for their support and contributions in helping Macao’s tourism industry to move forward. MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes led a delegation of the Office to welcome over 100 travel trade executives at the luncheon. The Commissioner for Tourism of the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Joe Wong; Deputy Director of Asia Tourism Exchange Center of China National Tourism Administration, Cui Suxiang, as well as Chairman of Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong, Jason Wong, were present in the luncheon along with other guests.

During the luncheon, Director Senna Fernandes extended her sincere appreciation to tourism industry operators in Hong Kong for their support to Macao’s tourism industry and her best wishes to all the guests for reaching a new pinnacle of success in their business, as the tourism industry enjoys a flourishing New Year. In 2017, Macao welcomed more than 32 million visitors. Standing as the second largest visitor source market, Hong Kong contributed over 6.1 million visitors to Macao last year.

Following the designation as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy on 31 October 2017, Macao officially kicked off the “2018 Macao Year of Gastronomy” this January. In line with that, MGTO strives to advocate the gastronomic culture of Macao by unfolding various initiatives ranging from promotion and exchange to education and inheritance. By organizing a variety of activities to support industry stakeholders and foster cross-sector cooperation, MGTO is dedicated to showing the unique charm and creativity of Macao as a City of Gastronomy to the world.

In active support of MGTO's marketing strategies, MGTO’s representative in Hong Kong will enhance its communication and cooperation with members of the tourism industry through different means such as regularly organizing product update presentations, thematic familiarization tours, joint promotions and Macao on Sale promotions. Moreover, brand-new promotional campaigns will be tailored for the demand of different market segments while the Internet and various social networks will be well harnessed to showcase the diversity of travel experiences Macao has to offer.
