The Paris Agreement entered into force on 4 November of 2016, in which the People's Republic of China is one of the signatory Parties.  The Paris Agreement aims to strengthen the global response to the threat of climate change and to reinforce the ability of countries to deal with the impacts of climate change.

Given the importance of training and public awareness on the matters addressed in the Paris Agreement and to continually build our capacities in this important area, the Legal and Judicial Training Centre and the Institute of European Studies of Macau are going to organise a seminar on “Paris Agreement - Climate Change and Environment”, that will take place on July 5^th to 7^th, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, in the auditorium of the Civil Service Training Centre located on Alameda Dr. Carlos D’ Assumpção n.° 322-362, Cheng Feng Commercial Centre, 7^th floor.

Integrated as part of the 3^rd Macao Special Administrative Region - EU Co-operation Programme in the Legal Field, this training initiative will feature the following guest speakers:

1. Jose Eduardo Rego Mendes Martins, Lawyer, ex-Secretary of state for the Environment and ex-Secretary of State for Regional Development of Portugal;
2. Julian Laurent Chaisse (Ph.D.), Professor of the Faculty of Law, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong.

The seminar will be conducted in English and Portuguese with simultaneous translation into Cantonese and Portuguese. This training initiative is set out into three modules:

5 July:

1. The Long Road to Paris, what have we learned from each Conference of the Parties and what we should not forget when implementing the Paris Agreement;
2. Climate Change and Economic Transactions.

6 July:

1. Environmental regulation and climate change, European regulatory milestones, potential for replication;
2. Climate change and trade law.

7 July:

1. Renewable energy, regulation and global markets, nihil novum sub sole?
2. Climate change and investment.

The 3rd Co-operation Programme in the Legal Field between the Macao Special Administrative Region and the European Union, which incorporates this seminar, has as its main objective “Promote the Development and Modernisation of the Macao Special Administrative Region’s Legal System” and is going to take place until November 2019.

The execution of the Co-operation Programme is coordinated by the Legal Affairs Bureau, together with many entities and public departments of the Macao Special Administrative Region, namely the Legal and Judicial Training Centre, the Institute of European Studies of Macau, the Economic Services, the Consumer Council and the Social Welfare Bureau.
