The CCAC detected a case involving a Chief Officer of the Macao Prison who allegedly received bribes to commit illegal acts. Allegedly, the suspected Chief Officer, surnamed Wong, has long received advantages from an inmate, who returned the favour by favouring him/her and offering him/her special help and turned a blind eye to his/her illegal acts in the prison. Compulsory measures have been adopted on the suspect including suspension from duties and prohibition to leave the region. This is the first time after handover that the CCAC unveils a case involving a public servant with the rank of Chief Officer of the Macao Prison and the CCAC places importance on this case and will keep following it. It does not exclude the possibility of other individuals involving the case.

The suspect was responsible for the management of the daily operation of prison cells. Since quite a long time, the inmate has repeatedly offered advantages to the suspect through a visitor. Such advantages included various bottles of prestigious wine (some were of world-class, with each costing more than MOP20,000), luxurious food such as top quality abalone and ginseng, foreign cosmetics, travelling and hospitality, luxurious catering and accommodation etc. In return, the suspect offered special help to the suspect by serving as a “shelter” of the suspect and turning a blind eye to his/her illegal acts.

With the gathered information and after in-depth investigation and deployment, the CCAC conducted an operation recently. The suspect was successfully arrested when he/she was receiving advantages and part of the advantages involving this case was found on him/her. Moreover, with the assistance of the Macao Prison, some prohibited items were seized in the prison cell of the involved inmate. Important evidence was also seized in the suspect’s residence.
