IFT starts receiving application for (1) Evening Diploma and Degree Programmes (specialization in Hotel Management or Tourism Event Management), (2) Diploma in Western Culinary Skills and (3) Diploma in Pastry and Bakery from 29 April to 10 May. Diploma Programmes range from 1.5 – 2 years while Degree Programmes last for 4 years. Courses are arranged in modular format with Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin) as the medium of instruction while practicum and internship are integrated in the programme for students to acquire hands-on experience in related fields. Culinary diploma programmes target at secondary school graduates who would like to pursue a professional diploma in order to be able to embark their career in this field or those practitioners who wish to advance their culinary knowledge and skills.

To cope with the rapid tourism development in Macao and the Asia Pacific region, IFT sees the needs for offering evening programmes and is keen on equipping more students with professional knowledge and technical competence in preparation for their future leadership responsibilities in the industry. In addition, the evening programmes provide another channel for working adults to further their studies so as to enhance their competitiveness.

IFT Evening Degree Programmes provide as many practical learning chances for students as those in Daytime Programmes. Students are required to complete different projects as well as to perform practicum and internship. During February, Hotel Management Year 2 students held a charity event named “Let’s Date” at IFT Educational Restaurant, aiming to raise society awareness for minority children and teenagers in Macao. Through this social networking event, it also helped to widen the social connection among teenagers, making them to get to know more about hospitality industry. Guests indulged themselves with good food and were entertained with wonderful magic performance. Lucky draw activities and the charity cookie selling session pushed the themed night to a blast. The event raised over MOP10,000 and the profit was donated to an orphanage in Macao.

Through this kind of practical exercise, students could put theory into real execution. Team spirit could be developed as well through group projects. It has always been the hope of IFT that students could cultivate a sense of empathy and passion for the needy and to engage in charity activities throughout their lives.
