Aiming to continue to develop Macao as the environmental industry exchange platform between China and the international market and in order to promote environmental protection, the Macao SAR Government will organize, for the third consecutive year, the Macao International Environmental Co-operation and Forum and Exhibition (2010MIECF). This year’s event will take place on April 8-10.

Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) and the Macao Environmental Protection Bureau (DSPA) are the Host Co-ordinators for the event, while the governments of the nine Pan-Pearl River Delta provinces and the Government of the Hong Kong SAR will act as Co-organizers. The National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the People’s Republic of China have been invited as Special Supporting Organizations.

The theme for the 2010MIECF will be “Macao, the Green Gateway, Green Knowledge, Green Technology, Green Finance”. Essentially through the exhibition of materials and the organization of two forums, namely on “Low-Carbon Building and Eco City” and “Clean Technology and Circular Economy”, complemented by the marking of “Green Business Co-operation Day” and the organization of business matching, technical visits and a wide range of exchange activities, MIECF aims to promote the green spirit as well as local and international co-operation, through the sharing of the latest environmental technology and solutions, to create more business opportunities for different enterprises.

Mr Chui Sai On, Chief Executive of Macao SAR, and senior officials in environmental and related fields, from China and abroad, as well as international experts in environmental protection, will deliver their keynote speeches at the opening ceremony. The Organizers expect that the 3-day event will attract a great number of visitors, including international and local exhibitors, professional buyers, experts, scholars and the general public.

There will be multiple themed areas, including the Macao Pavilion, the Pan-PRD Exhibition Area, the European Union Pavilion, the Macao Environmental Protection and Energy Saving Industry Exhibition Area, the Low-Carbon Living Pavilion, Mainland China and International Environmental Protection Enterprises Exhibition Area and China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association Exhibition Area, among others.

Furthermore, representatives from the United States, Germany, Portugal, Brazil, Canada, Switzerland, Belgium, Australia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Shanghai, Zhuhai, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and other places will set up booths at the 2010MIECF, to introduce their respective advanced environmental protection products, equipment, technology and markets. The exhibition will be opened to the public on April 10, to welcome all visitors.

Exhibitors at the 2010MIECF will include such world-renowned enterprises as EDP, Lamor, Mitsubish Chemical, Brookers, Hyflux, STSE, Nam Kwong Group and the Venetian Macao Group. Other well-known exhibitors are GE Water Business Group and the Neo-Neon Holdings Group Limited.

The Organizers hope that this year’s MIECF will not only continue to promote Macao as the platform for cooperation in environmental protection industry between China and the international market, but will also introduce new environmental technologies to Macao, so as to promote the development of the environmental protection industry and radiate the relevant technology to the neighbouring regions, while deepening at the same time the cooperation in environmental protection industry between Macao, Mainland China and the Portuguese-Speaking Countries.

Furthermore, the Macao Pavilion will not only use 100% recyclable or recoverable construction materials, but will also offer a unique design concept. In this regard, a “hemispherical dome”, showing blue sky and a wisdom tree, will be built at the centre of the Macao Pavilion, precisely to respond to the MIECF’s concept of appeal for environmental protection.

EXCHANGE OF EXPERIENCE IN ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

Two different forums will be held on April 9, namely on “Low-Carbon Building and Eco City” and “Clean Technology and Circular Economy”. The first one will focus on green issues, such as urban ecology, low-carbon transportation, green intelligent building and green low-carbon technologies, while the second forum will discuss the co-operation among international industrial enterprises in the promotion of green economy, especially the interaction between China and the European Union.

Government officials, experts, industry leaders and representatives of international organizations from over 10 countries and regions will share their research results and experience with the audience, to promote the popularization and implementation of green living.

In the afternoon of April 9, the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association, Environmental Protection Bureau and Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Bureau will co-organize a forum entitled “Low-Carbon Economy Forum” to explore the relationship between climate change and low-carbon economy, the role of petroleum and chemical industry in developing low-carbon economy, as well as other issues.
