The speech by President Hu Jintao at the tenth anniversary celebration of Macao’s Return to the motherland and the inauguration ceremony of the Third-term Macao SAR Government provided important guiding thoughts, the Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, said today.
After attending the reception to celebration of the tenth anniversary of the Establishment of Macao SAR in the afternoon, when asked by reporters about Mr Hu’s speech, Mr Chui said he understood Mr Hu’s words and would firmly implement the policy of “one country two systems”, “Macao people governing people” with high degree of autonomy.
Having just been sworn in hours before, Mr Chui said the new team would fully support and implement Macao’s Basic Law and service the motherland and Macao.
The Government would enhance diversification of the economy by promoting the development of the convention and exhibition industry, upgrading traditional industries and broaden the culture industry and service industry.
He said he would seriously study what Mr Hu had said and follow his guidance.
Mr Chui revealed that a panda theme park might be built in Seac Pai Wan Park after consulting with the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau, to accommodate the two pandas which the Central Government would present to Macao on celebration of its tenth anniversary.
He said the Government would also listen to the public about the site selection, and an ad hoc team would be established as soon as possible to work with experts on the mainland.
Mr Chui also said that he would actively start preparing for his first policy address.
When asked about co-operation with Hong Kong, Mr Chui said that Hong Kong and Macao have a good co-operation foundation. He also said that Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao would work closely on tourism co-operation.
On the refusal of entry of a Hong Kong journalist, he said the SAR Government respected freedom of speech and freedom of press and he believed the police made the decision based on the law.
He thanked the journalists who were in Macao to cover the tenth celebration of Macao’s Return to the motherland.
