The Health Bureau put a 77-year-old man in isolation for further diagnosis and treatment last evening (30 April), announced the Health Bureau today.

The isolated man was a 77-year-old throat cancer patient who had been admitted to Queen Elisabeth Hospital in Hong Kong for radiation therapy in 15 April.

The patient had fever during his stay in the hospital but X-ray images and results of tests did not revealed signs of SARS. His fever came down on 25 April and was discharged from the hospital on 30 April.

Since the patient was found to have fever when he arrived at the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal, he was sent to Conde S. Januario Hospital for further check up.

Although X-ray images and blood test result did not suggest SARS, since the patient had stayed in hospital in Hong Kong and his fever maintain, the Health Bureau decided to put him in isolation care for further diagnosis and treatment.

Since the patient did not have symptoms of SARS, members of his family and passengers who shared the ferry with him did not needed to be isolated. However, the bureau still urged them to consult a doctor if ever they feel unwell.
