The Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region of the PRC, Edmund Ho, led a delegation visiting Mozambique from 21 to 26 September to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
During the official visit, Mr. Ho will meet with the Mozambique President, Joaquim Chissano, the Prime-Minister, Pascoal Mocumbi, and officials in the fields of transportation, housing, education, science and technology, tourism, foreign affairs and economics. Several protocols regarding bilateral cooperation and commerce will be signed to reinforce links between the MSAR and Mozambique.
Members of the delegation include the president of the Legislative Assembly, Susana Chou, the Secretary for Economy and Finance, Francis Tam, coordinator of the MSAR Economic and Trade Delegation to the European Union, Raimundo do Rosá/;rio, the president of the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, Lee Peng Hong, and several local businessmen.
The Chief Executive left for Mozambique on Saturday. Before departing, Edmund Ho stressed his government¡¦s policy to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Portuguese-speaking countries. He hoped that Mozambique could be used as a platform for Macao businessmen entering the African market.
When questioned, Edmund Ho was positive regarding the proposition to construct a bridge between Hong Kong, Macao and Zhuhai. He stressed that the Government would support any infrastructure that would benefit the transportation network between Macao, Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta. He mentioned that the project depended on the coordination of the Central Government and on further analysis from the authorities of the three territories.
