The IFTM Wine Appreciation Club, an affiliate of the IFTM Student Union has successfully held its first wine tasting event on 5 February. The event provided a platform for students to enhance their wine knowledge and to interact with the wine industry professionals.

The theme of the event was “Wine Tour ‘Down Under’” which showcased four premium red and white wines from some of the most renowned Australia and New Zealand wine regions including Yarra Valley, McLaren Vale, Marlborough and Central Otago. The Club is honored to receive full support from “Bevtech Limited”, a subsidiary of “Macau Industrial Limitada”, sponsoring the wines for the 30 participants. The event was hosted by IFTM Lecturer Mr. Oscar Ho Man Cheng whom began by reviewing the special features of the various wine regions and the respective grape varieties, followed by sampling the wines and exploring different food and wine pairing options with all participants. During the event, Mr. Raymond U Io Fong, CEO of Macau Industrial Limitada, and his management team have generously shared their professional insights and wine industry experiences with the students.

The Executive Committee of the IFTM Wine Appreciation Club, composed of five students from the Culinary Arts Management, Hotel Management and Tourism Business Management Degree Programmes respectively, was inaugurated in January. The Club aims to assist students to further develop their wine knowledge and to prepare for future career development through collaborations with the wine trade, as well as the hospitality and food and beverage industry professionals through training courses and activities. A series of activities arranged by the Club for the students are in the pipeline for the upcoming months.
