The University of Macau (UM) on 19 September (next Wednesday) will hold a talk titled ‘Data vs Law: The Future of Legal Education in Macao’. Prof Shui Bing from the Faculty of Law, who is the recipient of the Teaching Excellence Award for the 2017/2018 academic year, will be the keynote speaker. During the talk, Prof Shui will share his insights on how legal education in Macao keeps pace with social changes amid the challenges and opportunities brought about by regional integration and the big data era. All are welcome.
The UM Teaching Excellence Award each year recognises one distinguished faculty member who has demonstrated excellence as an educator. It signifies the university’s commitment to pursuing teaching excellence and enhancing student learning experience. Award candidates are selected from different faculties through a rigorous process by faculty members, student representatives, and members of the community.
During the talk, Prof Shui will discuss his educational philosophy and teaching experience. According to Prof Shui, while big data and artificial intelligence can facilitate legal practice, the rational and humanistic thinking of legal professionals are irreplaceable. He suggests that teachers and students of law should keep pace with the changes in society in order to meet the challenges and seize the opportunities in the new era.
The lecture will start at 4:30pm in Room G062, Anthony Lau Building (E4), UM. It will be conducted in Mandarin, with simultaneous interpretation into English. Those who are interested should register at https://isw.umac.mo/evm/register/award_shui. For enquiries, please call 8822 4504
