Macau SAR government held an official reception today to celebrate the 51st anniversary of People's Republic of China. The Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau Wah indicated in his toast that Macau is making its best effort to match the continuous progressing of its motherland. He is confident that Macau and all the Chinese people would certainly have a brighter future in the coming new century.
In the first official reception for the National Day after Macau's handover, the Chief Executive stressed that although Macau was a small city, its motherland China provided a large area for its development, which could be considered as an advantage to either maintain or raise the SAR's competitive effort.
Edmund Ho indicated that Macau's destiny was always tightly linked with its motherland. The open and reform policy of China encouraged Macau's development. The central government is fully supporting the SAR since handover, which strengthened the linking and cooperation between Macau and mainland China. The mutual aid and cooperation between Macau-Canton and Macau-Fujian had entered a new stage.
The Chief Executive said that being Chinese, descendant of the Dragon, should be proud of China for being strong and prosperous. The U. S. congress recently approved the bill for permanent and regular trade status to China, while entering WTO is just right in the corner, the Chinese could certainly speed up their progress in modernization constructions.
About the work and target of the SAR government, the Chief Executive indicated that the "one country two systems" policy and Macau Basic Law were thoroughly implemented in the SAR during the past nine months since handover. The key message of "a solid foundation and healthy development" mentioned in the first administrative report of the SAR is gradually succeeding. With advanced improving in public security, the economy is recovering from the darkness, which is obviously reflected by the prosperous in tourism. All the civil servants had endeavoured their effort and the entire society is functioning well since handover.
Edmund Ho stressed that the SAR government is not only satisfactory in the present situation. He indicated that there are difficult tasks, instability and complicated challenges in future. Deal to the weak foundation of the SAR, the imbalance in economic structure, the administrative efficiency and quality of civil servants, the SAR government is still facing series difficulties.
The Chief Executive is confident to face the challenges and overcome the difficulties in future. He believed that Macau and all the Chinese people would certainly have a brighter future in the coming new century.
