Macao and Hong Kong to discuss transfer of convicts

At the invitation of the Secretary for Security, a six-member delegation from the Hong Kong SAR Government today (4 June) arrived in Macao to discuss the transfer of convicts between the two territories.

Seven representatives from the Office of the Secretary for Public Administration and Justice, the Office of the Secretary for Security and the Macao Prison met with their Hong Kong counterparts from the Department of Justice and Correctional Services, headed by the Deputy Secretary of the Security Bureau, Mrs. J. Chok.

During the meeting, both sides expressed an intent to cooperate and to exchange relevant information in preparation for further discussions with the ad hoc group for judicial assistance and cooperation.

The delegates visited the Macao Prison after the meeting. They left for Hong Kong in the afternoon after a luncheon with Secretary for Security Cheong Kuoc Va.

Currently in the Macao Prison there are 29 remand prisoners and 84 convicts of Hong Kong origin.
