Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for February 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 141 hotel establishments offered accommodation services to the public in February 2024, an increase of 15 year-on-year. Total number of available guest rooms grew by 19.7% to 46,000. The average occupancy rate of guest rooms went up by 9.5 percentage points year-on-year to 85.6%; the rates for 5-star (89.1%) and 4-star hotels (80.1%) rose by 14.3 percentage points and 6.3 percentage points respectively, whereas the rate for 3-star hotels (79.1%) dropped by 3.1 percentage points.

The number of guests of hotel establishments totalled 1,228,000 in February, up by 39.6% year-on-year and 14.2% over the same month in 2019. Guests from mainland China (939,000), Taiwan (26,000) and the Republic of Korea (25,000) jumped by 46.1%, 141.9% and 736.2% year-on-year respectively, while those from Hong Kong (141,000) dropped by 12.7%. Meanwhile, the average length of stay of guests held stable year-on-year at 1.6 nights, representing an increase of 0.1 night compared to February 2019.

In the first two months of 2024, the average occupancy rate of guest rooms of hotel establishments went up by 12.1 percentage points year-on-year to 85.8%. The number of guests grew by 47.6% year-on-year to 2,550,000, while their average length of stay shortened by 0.1 night to 1.6 nights.

In February, number of visitors arriving on package tours expanded by 766.7% year-on-year to 144,000; besides, a total of 35,000 Macao residents purchased outbound services through travel agencies, an uplift of 66.1% year-on-year. In the first two months of 2024, number of visitors arriving on package tours rocketed by 1,569.0% year-on-year to 278,000, and that of Macao residents purchasing outbound services through travel agencies surged by 101.0% to 67,000.
