The seminar presented the strengths of Macao’s tourism and MICE industries and facilitated networking among industry delegates from both sides, while raising Macao’s profile as a safe and quality destination.
The seminar was attended by about 140 personages including Director of Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes; Deputy Director of MGTO, Cheng Wai Tong; Executive Member of the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), Vincent U; Director and Deputy Director of Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Culture, Broadcast-TV and Tourism, Duo Yang Nuo Mu and Wang Min; Deputy Director of Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Exposition and Vice-Chairman of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Chengdu Sub-council, Mao Yan, as well as members of the travel and MICE trade from Sichuan and Macao.
MGTO Director Senna Fernandes stated in her remarks that Sichuan, renowned as “the Country of Haven” and endowed with overflowing tourism resources, is one of the major contributors of Mainland visitors to Macao. There are frequent visitations between Sichuan and Macao, both of which have been making concerted efforts to tap into each other’s visitor markets and launch different travel products. She hopes that the seminar can enable industry delegates from both sides to explore new opportunities for cooperation in tourism, MICE and other industries and develop innovative tourism products and services for boosting mutual visitations, in turn benefiting the long-term tourism development of both sides. She hopes that the Macao Week in Sichuan•Chengdu can offer Chengdu residents a window onto Macao as a safe, healthy and quality destination, and draw more Mainland visitors to Macao.
In his remarks, Vincent U expressed that the MICE industry is thriving in Chengdu with its economic impact rippling across Sichuan Province. The city also ventures into the western region of the Province with an extensive MICE market network, which plays a significant enhancer for the domestic economic circulation boosted by MICE businesses. In parallel, Macao is delivering its unique functions in reaching the vast market of Portuguese-speaking countries with a total population of over 200 million across four continents. Marching forward as the business service platform in tandem with MICE development can support enterprises to tap into business opportunities brought by the external economic circulation.
