The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, sent a congratulatory message on Sunday (8 August) to the Chinese delegation that attended the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, for their marvellous and sensational achievements during the event. 

The Chief Executive represented the Macao Special Administrative Region and the people across Macao, in extending feelings of utmost respect and sincere congratulations to the national athletes, for achieving glorious results, with many breakthroughs for Team China at the 32nd Summer Olympics that ended on Sunday (8 August).

The national athletes displayed vigorously the spirit of the Olympics, and  the sporting spirit of China, the letter read. The team won a total of 38 gold medals, 32 silver medals and 18 bronze medals at the Summer Olympics. Such impressive results had won great honour for the country, and for the people across the nation.

The athletes’ determination and endeavour to gain victory; their resilience and virtuoso skills; and the personal charisma displayed by the athletes in each sport, pulled at the heartstrings of the Macao public and thrilled everyone across the country. Their devotion to their task in the Olympic Games further spurred the patriotic passion of the Macao public, and excited those Chinese people living overseas, noted the Chief Executive’s letter.

Members of the Macao public were beyond proud, regarding the momentous performance of the national athletes, Mr Ho wrote in the letter. The Macao public will learn from, and promote in themselves, the sporting spirit of the national athletes, as well as learn from the athletes’ determination and steadfastness, as well as their strength and power to overcome challenges and push limits. Such a spirit will further bind the Macao community as one, in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic; and in the promotion, with greater confidence, of local adequate economic diversification, while advancing the implementation of the “One country, two systems” principle in Macao as part of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

The Chief Executive also sent good wishes to Team China for scaling new heights in sporting events, and for fighting for the glory of the country and of the Chinese people.
