The Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition (MIECF) offers online and offline business matching services and protocol signing ceremonies to help businesspeople from all over the world expand green business opportunities. Through MIECF, some enterprises successfully established collaborative relationships with enterprises in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to produce eco-friendly products, and some increased their turnover by about 20%.
Since its inception in 2008, MIECF has been joining hands with the Pan-Pearl River Delta Region. It leverages Macao’s strengths as the Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, committed to building a green platform, disseminating environmental protection information, and creating green business opportunities for enterprises. Over the last thirteen years, MIECF has arranged over 5,200 business matching and negotiation sessions, during which 350 co-operative projects have been signed, with nearly 80% of them having been implemented to date.
Ms Leong, Managing Director of Macau Lian Da Environment Protection Technology Co. Ltd., spoke highly of MIECF’s effectiveness. She believes that eco-friendly products are the future. Therefore, her company entered into a contract with a Zhuhai-based enterprise through MIECF to set up a factory in Macao producing rinse-free car cleaning products. When setting up the factory, she co-ordinated various communication procedures through the Investors’ One Stop Service provided by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM). Currently, her products are being sold to Mainland China through the Mainland and Macao Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA). She pointed out that this year the company will participate in MIECF again to seek partners.
Mr Iao, Managing Director of Macao-based Green Wall Design Ltd, remarked that thanks to MIECF-provided negotiation services, he successfully reached a co-operation deal regarding planting renovation with a local hotel. In 2020, the company’s turnover from hotel projects increased by approximately MOP600,000. Meanwhile, it developed a street planting and maintenance business in Nansha District, in mainland China, through the MIECF platform. Mr Iao noted that his company will also participate this year, hoping to contribute to the construction of a green, smart city in Macao.
Through MIECF, the Association of Great Food Merchants of Macao signed a co-operation agreement on eco-friendly straws with a local integrated tourism and leisure enterprise. According to its representative Mr Sou, this collaborative relationship has raised environmental protection awareness among small and medium-sized enterprises in the catering industry, which is conducive to developing the industry’s green image.
Ms Chou, COO of the Hong Kong-based Pair Environmental Protection Company Limited, mentioned that exchanges and interaction with players in the environmental protection industry throughout the world during MIECF resulted in a 10 to 20 percent gain in the company’s turnover, derived from its procurement chain, techniques, production, technology and other areas. Also, the company expanded its business in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The 2021MIECF will be held at The Venetian Macao from 5 to 7 August, under the theme “Towards a Green and Low Carbon New Era”. Held amid the pandemic, this year’s MIECF is poised to enrich its online elements, including an online exhibition, online business matching and conference live streaming. The 2021MIECF will assist enterprises in business matching and exchanges through the Online Business Matching Service Platform (https://bm.ipim.gov.mo) and exchange meetings for industry insiders during the event.
