This issue of Review of Culture presents nine contributions from the first Lisbon-Macao Philosophy Symposium held at the University of Lisbon in 2019. The conference aimed to foster Luso-Chinese exchange from philosophical perspectives under the theme “Philosophical Encounters between the Lusophone-and the Chinese-speaking World as a Bridge between East and West”.
Playing a role similar to that of ancient port cities, Lisbon and Macao have been serving as urban sites for importing and exporting religious creeds, spiritual practices and philosophical ideas since the first batch of European missionaries together with their Chinese interlocutors initiated a dialogue between Christianity, Buddhism, Confucianism and Daoism, which set up a model of intercultural encounter.
