The Macao Special Administrative Region Government will stage the promotional event titled “Macao Week in Shanghai” in Shanghai from 7 to 10 January 2021. Following the “Beijing Macao Week” held in Beijing this September, the Office will roll out another mega roadshow on Anyi Road and the South Plaza of Jing’an Kerry Centre at Jing’an District in Shanghai to showcase Macao’s offer of diverse travel experiences to locals and visitors there, conveying the message that Macao is a healthy destination welcoming visitors without the requirement of quarantine. The event is set to draw Mainland visitors to Macao during festive holidays. The roadshow will be held on 8 – 10 January, while a Shanghai – Macao tourism and MICE presentation will be held on 7 January to enhance cooperation between both cities.

The Macao Week in Shanghai will be unveiled in Shanghai on 8 January. The promotional event engages various governmental entities from Macao with the support of numerous enterprises and commerce associations, which will join hands with organizers to set up a mega roadshow on Anyi Road and the South Plaza of Jing’an Kerry Centre at Jing’an District on 8 – 10 January to showcase Macao’s diverse dimensions of tourism, commerce and trade, culture, sports, entertainment and more to locals and visitors.

The roadshow will encompass an array of themed zones including “Overview about Macao, events and cultural tourism”, “Macao’s World Heritage, Intangible Cultural Heritage as well as cultural and creative industries”, “Sport events in Macao”, “MinM made in Macao and local brand exhibition”, “Exhibition of products from Portuguese-speaking countries” as well as “Macao tourism industry exhibition”, etc.

A LED screen modeled after the Ruins of St. Paul’s will be installed at the stage zone. Spectators can scan the QR code at the site to send blessings for display on the LED screen. Tourist Information counters will be set up at the venue to provide tourist information about Macao.

Furthermore, the roadshow will present wonderful performances including glow-in-the-dark dragon dance, lion dance, magic show, Portuguese folk dance, street dance, special dance and so forth. Macao Tourism Mascot MAK MAK will also show up for an encounter with residents in Shanghai.

There will be giveaways during the Macao Week in Shanghai as well. Locals can scan the QR code at the Tourist Information counters to access H5 pages, then acquire electronic stamps through scanning other QR codes at various themed zones, follow Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO)’s WeChat ID (“MGTOweixin”) and take a photo at the main stage to share on Wechat with friends, in exchange of gifts at the Tourist Information counters.

During the event, the organizers will leverage a series of online and offline channels in the Mainland to promote the Macao Week in Shanghai, including promotional campaigns carried out by different KOLs on their own platforms.

To further enhance cooperation between Shanghai and Macao, MGTO and the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) will ride on the occasion to organize a “Shanghai – Macao tourism and MICE presentation” in Shanghai on 7 January to introduce the advantages of the tourism and MICE industries in both cities and facilitate exchange among industry delegates from both sides.

During the Macao Week in Shanghai, the units involved will rigorously follow the COVID-19 prevention guidelines issued by the health authorities of Shanghai. Proper event arrangements will be carried out to support pandemic prevention while all participants must adhere to the arrangements for pandemic prevention.

On the other hand, visitors to Macao are advised to complete the formalities for entry and pandemic prevention beforehand and adhere to the public health guidelines for pandemic prevention issued by the Macao SAR Government during their stay in Macao.

The organizers for the Macao Week in Shanghai include the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government and Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism. The coordinators include Macao Government Tourism Office and Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute. The supporting entities include Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shanghai, Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, Industrial Association of Macau, Macau Importers & Exporters Association as well as the Federal General Commercial Association of Macau Small and Medium Enterprises.
