Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 557 establishments were engaged in Property Management (236), Security (60) and Cleaning Services (261) in 2019, an increase of 21 year-on-year; total number of persons engaged rose by 5.4% to 28,246. Receipts and expenditure of these three industries amounted to MOP 5.80 billion and MOP 5.15 billion respectively, up by 7.3% and 7.6% year-on-year. As these industries were relatively labour-intensive, Compensation of Employees (MOP 3.87 billion) accounted for a significant share of expenditure, at 75.2%. Gross Fixed Capital Formation of these industries fell by 31.7% year-on-year to MOP 47.90 million, on account of a decrease in acquisition of assets such as property in Security and Cleaning Services.
Analysed by industry, receipts and expenditure of the establishments providing Property Management Services totalled MOP 1.96 billion and MOP 1.78 billion respectively, with increases of 5.3% and 5.4% year-on-year. Gross Surplus rose by 3.9% year-on-year to MOP 180 million. Gross Value Added that measures the sectoral contribution to the economy stood at MOP 1.11 billion, a year-on-year rise of 11.1%. In addition, Gross Fixed Capital Formation of the industry went up by 21.4% year-on-year to MOP 24.91 million.
Establishments engaging in Security Services registered MOP 2.46 billion in receipts and MOP 2.14 billion in expenditure in 2019, representing respective growth of 9.4% and 7.9% year-on-year. Gross Surplus expanded by 20.1% year-on-year to MOP 327 million, and Gross Value Added grew by 10.9% to MOP 2.27 billion. Meanwhile, Gross Fixed Capital Formation of the industry slid by 57.0% year-on-year to MOP 9.94 million.
Receipts of the establishments providing Cleaning Services grew by 6.4% year-on-year to MOP 1.38 billion, while expenditure rose by 10.2% to MOP 1.23 billion. As Compensation of Employees (+8.1%) and Purchase of Goods, Outsourcing & Commission (+80.1%) registered notable growth, Gross Surplus of the industry fell by 17.1% year-on-year to MOP 149 million. Gross Value Added went up by 4.0% year-on-year to MOP 1.15 billion, while Gross Fixed Capital Formation declined by 50.7% year-on-year to MOP 13.05 million.
Number of establishments engaging in Advertising (755) and Conference & Exhibition Organising Services (126) increased by 42 year-on-year to 881 in 2019; number of persons engaged totalled 2,900, up by 11.2%. Receipts of these two industries amounted to MOP 1.47 billion, an increase of 12.3% year-on-year. Expenditure rose by 8.6% year-on-year to MOP 1.33 billion, with Purchase of Goods, Outsourcing & Commission Paid comprising 57.1% of the total.
Analysed by industry, receipts of the establishments involving in Advertising Services rose by 6.5% year-on-year to MOP 895 million, of which 66.0% were generated from the provision of advertising services. Expenditure increased by 3.5% year-on-year to MOP 816 million. Gross Surplus and Gross Value Added totalled MOP 76.76 million and MOP 360 million respectively, representing growth of 45.4% and 14.3% year-on-year. Besides, Gross Fixed Capital Formation grew by 11.7% year-on-year to MOP 16.07 million.
Receipts of the establishments providing Conference & Exhibition Organising Services stood at MOP 575 million, a rise of 22.8% year-on-year; those generated from the provision of services for conferences & exhibitions accounted for 90.8% of the total. Expenditure rose by 17.8% year-on-year to MOP 512 million. As the growth in receipts outpaced that in expenditure, Gross Surplus of the industry surged by 85.0% year-on-year to MOP 63.02 million. Gross Value Added expanded by 24.9% year-on-year to MOP 166 million. Moreover, Gross Fixed Capital Formation of the industry jumped by 96.8% year-on-year to MOP 10.51 million, attributable to an increase in the purchase of machinery and equipment.
