Organized by Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the Administrative Committee of Hengqin New Area, the “Full Moon National Day Fireworks Celebration by Macao and Hengqin” lit up the sky above the sea overlooked by Macau Tower tonight (1 October) in celebration of the 71st Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China.

The “Full Moon National Day Fireworks Celebration by Macao and Hengqin” last for approximately 20 minutes in three themed chapters: “Meet in Macao”, “Macao Emotions” and “Sounds of Macao and Hengqin”. The magnificent fireworks set the night sky ablaze, doubling the festive joy experienced by spectators on the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival, which fell on the same day this year.

The first chapter “Meet in Macao” lifted the curtains upon the show with light bursts of low-attitude and mid-range fireworks for about six minutes, followed by the eight-minute chapter “Macao Emotions” with large fireworks blooming in soft rhythm. The show culminated with the six-minute finale “Sounds of Macao and Hengqin”, a cascade of extravagant fireworks highlighted by 3D numerical patterns “2020” and “71” as well as patterns of smiley faces, rejoicing with residents and visitors over the 71st Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China. The fireworks display was choreographed to the above chapters’ themes and the rhythm of the background music compiled by the Administrative Committee of Hengqin New Area. Some of the music pieces were selected from Hengqin’s original music album “Love in Hengqin and Macao”.

MGTO arranged for live broadcast of the spectacular on TDM Entertainment Channel and TDM’s Facebook page in real time so that residents could enjoy the show at home. To enhance spectators’ enjoyment, sound systems were installed at four locations on Macao Peninsula and Taipa to stream the synchronized music together with TDM Radio Macau Chinese Channel (FM100.7). In consideration of the festive date and assessment of pandemic prevention, MGTO had coordinated with pertinent governmental departments in advance to ensure the activity was smoothly held.

The firework show was jointly organized by MGTO and the Administrative Committee of Hengqin New Area to spur tourism development in Macao and Zhuhai, and contribute to building the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area into a world-class travel destination.

The Macao International Fireworks Display Contest featured fireworks displays on the National day every year. Owing to travel restrictions implemented to curb the COVID-19 pandemic, MGTO cancelled the Contest this year.
