The Busking Programme of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) has been well received since its launch. In order to further revitalise and create a cultural atmosphere in the community, provide more performing platforms for local arts and cultural practitioners and promote quality street performances, IC will also offer a Busking Point at Barra Square from 28 September onwards in addition to the three existing venues. This additional point will be available for Buskers to perform in the afternoon from Mondays to Sundays.

The Busking Programme was launched by IC in 2016, providing three Busking Points, namely at Anim’Arte NAM VAN, the Taipa Houses and Mount Fortress Garden, for art aficionados to showcase their talent. As at September 2020, 453 local and foreign art aficionados have applied for the Busker Cards, and more than 130,000 spectators have watched their remarkable performances. The programme is supported and well received by art and cultural practitioners, residents and tourists, creating a lively atmosphere at the Busker Points.

In response to the opinions from Buskers and various sectors of society, IC will offer an additional Busker Point at Barra Square from 28 September onwards. Buskers involved in performing arts, visual arts and creative crafts are welcome. The Busking Point will be open from 2pm to 6pm from Monday to Sunday. Buskers should register at the registration counter near the red mailbox in Barra Square before they are assigned the performance area by staff on-site. The Busking Point can only be used by two groups of Buskers at the same time.

Except for the additional Busking Point at Barra Square, the existing three Busking Points (Anim’Arte NAM VAN, the Taipa Houses and Mount Fortress Garden) remain open on Fridays, weekends and mandatory holidays. For guidelines and details of the Programme, please visit IC’s webpage at www.icm.gov.mo/busking.
