Eligible Macao ID holders with a negative nucleic acid test result for COVID-19 infection are able – with effect from 6am today – to travel quarantine-free to anywhere in Guangdong Province.

Under test result requirement, those wishing to travel out of Macao across its land boundaries with Guangdong must obtain a negative nucleic acid test result, issued within seven days of their intended departure from Macao; and have a valid ‘green’ code result for respectively the Macao Health Code system and the Guangdong health-declaration system.

The update permitting eligible Macao ID holders to travel quarantine-free anywhere in Guangdong was announced on Tuesday (28 July), following discussions between the Macao and Guangdong authorities. The step was in accordance with the Central Government’s directives on advancing work relating to normalising boundary-crossing movement between Guangdong and Macao.

Before the latest measures, eligible Macao ID holders with a negative COVID-19 test result were permitted to travel quarantine-free to nine designated Guangdong cities.

In order to be granted exemption from undergoing a 14-day period of medical observation in Zhuhai, inbound travellers must have avoided travel to any places outside Macao and the mainland in the 14 days prior to their intended arrival in Guangdong.

Once in Guangdong, such travellers must make a daily digital declaration of their health status – via the Guangdong health-declaration system – in the 14 days following their arrival.
