Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that there were 22,556 visitor arrivals in June 2020, a decline of more than 90% year-on-year. Same-day visitors and overnight visitors totalled 13,205 and 9,351 respectively. The average length of stay of visitors extended by 0.2 day year-on-year to 1.4 days; the duration for overnight visitors (5.6 days) increased by 3.4 days, whereas that for same-day visitors (0.1 day) went down by 0.1 day. In addition, as the proportion of same-day visitors (58.5%) surged by 15.0 percentage points compared to May, the average length of stay of visitors shortened by 3.9 days month-to-month.

In terms of source of visitors, number of Mainland visitors fell by 99.0% year-on-year to 21,067 (93.4% of total), with 11,235 coming from the nine Pearl River Delta cities in the Greater Bay Area. Meanwhile, there were 1,142 visitors from Hong Kong and 326 from Taiwan.

Analysed by checkpoint, visitor arrivals by land totalled 22,443 in June, and 77.3% of them arrived through the Border Gate (17,344). Besides, there were just 113 visitor arrivals by air.

In the first half of 2020, number of visitor arrivals reduced by 83.9% year-on-year to 3,268,900. Same-day visitors (1,723,218) and overnight visitors (1,545,682) declined by 84.0% and 83.7% respectively. The average length of stay of visitors went up by 0.3 day year-on-year to 1.4 days, with that of overnight visitors (2.7 days) rising by 0.5 day while that of same-day visitors (0.2 day) staying unchanged. Visitors from mainland China (2,339,589), Hong Kong (652,522) and Taiwan (81,628) recorded decreases of more than 80%.
