Macao Polytechnic Institute has published the new issue of the Journal of One Country Two Systems Studies (Issue 44). First printed in August 2009, this academic periodical is published by “One Country, Two Systems” Research Centre of MPI, with the objective to give the public an insight into the “One Country, Two Systems” policy, promote research on topics related to governance and the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, maintain the progress of the SAR society, and establish an academic platform for the study of “One Country, Two Systems”.

This issue features 13 outstanding academic papers, including a synopsis of the “Basic Law Online Lecture” Series organized by the “One Country, Two Systems” Research Centre. In this particular issue, the summary of the lecture on “The Theme, Characteristics and Implications of the Macao Basic Law” by Xu Chang is presented. Being a national basic law that regulates the SAR system under the principle of “One Country, Two Systems”, the Macao Basic Law is discussed at the level of its central connotation, as well as analysed on its similarities and differences compared to that of the Hong Kong Basic Law. In line with the characteristics and actual needs of Macao society, the Macao Basic Law is not only a living norm for continuous development and innovation, but also a security and motivation for the prosperity and growth of Macao. Other lectures of the Series will be published in the upcoming issues.

The Journal of One Country Two Systems Studies (Issue 44) is divided into four sections, namely “Academic Monograph”, “Norm Analysis”, “Current Affairs and Policy Observation” and “Views and Voices”. The selected articles are closely related to the hot topics in the development of the theory and practice of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle and the Basic Law, such as “Discussion on the Rearrangement of the Jurisdiction under the “One Country, Two Systems” Framework” by Zhang Xiaoshan. In addition, “The Sino-US Trade Disputes” by Gao Jie and Sheng Li explores the current political issues in multiple disciplines and fields.

MPI’s Journal of One Country Two Systems Studies provides a platform for experts and scholars to engage in academic dialogue and construct more valuable research achievements. The Journal is now available at the MPI official website at http://www.ipm.edu.mo/zh/academic_journal_2020_issue2.php; hardcopies can be purchased at the Public Information Centre, Starlight Bookstore (MPI Branch) and Plaza Cultural Macao at MOP50.
