Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitors on package tours declined remarkably by 43.5% year-on-year to 511,000 in November 2019. Package tour visitors from mainland China (381,000), the Republic of Korea (36,000), Hong Kong (7,100) and Taiwan (60,000) dropped by 47.1%, 38.8%, 52.8% and 4.6% respectively, whereas those from Malaysia (7,100) increased by 20.7%. In the first eleven months of 2019, number of package tour visitors totalled 7,794,000, down by 4.9% year-on-year.

Outbound residents using services of travel agencies totalled 138,000 in November, a decrease of 10.4% year-on-year. Residents travelling under own arrangements dropped by 20.8% to 88,000, with those visiting mainland China (32,000), Hong Kong (23,000) and Taiwan (11,000) falling by 25.0%, 28.2% and 28.4% respectively. Meanwhile, residents travelling on package tours rose by 16.5% to 50,000 on account of a 21.3% growth in those visiting mainland China (40,000). In the first eleven months of 2019, outbound residents using services of travel agencies edged up by 0.3% year-on-year to 1,619,000.

There were 121 hotels & guesthouses operating at the end of November 2019, an increase of 5 year-on-year; however, number of available guest rooms reduced by 1.7% to 38,000 as a consequence of renovations undertaken in some hotels.

A total of 1,160,000 guests checked into hotels & guesthouses in November 2019, down by 2.0% year-on-year. Guests coming from mainland China (797,000) decreased by 4.0%, while those from the Republic of Korea (42,000), Hong Kong (140,000) and Taiwan (37,000) grew by 5.1%, 24.5% and 9.6% respectively. The average occupancy rate of guest rooms went down by 2.2 percentage points year-on-year to 91.8%; the rates of 3-star hotels (94.5%) and 5-star hotels (92.9%) dropped by 0.8 percentage points and 2.3 percentage points respectively. The average length of stay of guests was 1.5 nights, up by 0.1 night year-on-year.

In the first eleven months of 2019, guests of hotels & guesthouses totalled 12,882,000, an increase of 1.4% year-on-year. The average occupancy rate of guest rooms (90.7%) and the average length of stay of guests (1.5 nights) both held steady year-on-year. Visitor-guests accounted for 71.8% of the total overnight visitors, up slightly by 0.1 percentage point.
