At this momentous time when the entire city rejoices over the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region, the “Macao-Zhuhai Fireworks Show in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Macao’s Handover to the Motherland” was staged splendidly tonight (22 December). The magnificent fireworks set the night sky ablaze across Macao and Zhuhai, bringing festive joy to residents and visitors.
At 9 p.m., a cascade of radiant fireworks skyrocketed above the sea overlooked by Macau Tower and Zhuhai Hengqin Financial Island. The highly-anticipated show unfolded its first chapter “Beautiful China, Celebrate for Homeland” highlighted by fireworks in the pattern of “20”, symbolizing the 20th Anniversary of Macao’s Handover to the Motherland and sparking jubilant vibes.
Continuing into the second and third chapters – “Glorious Years, Gather in Macao” and “Macao and Zhuhai as one Family, Close Friendship as Neighbors”, glorious fireworks danced in harmony with patterns formed by unmanned boats and drones, creating a symphony of beautiful pictures across the skyline of Macao and Zhuhai. The show culminated in the fourth chapter “Support each other, Build the Bay Area together”, bestowing best wishes for both cities to support each other and join hands to build a brighter future and the beautiful Bay Area together. Tens of thousands of fireworks shells were launched into different patterns in the air, bringing the atmosphere to a climax amid the applause and cheers of spectators.
The 30-minute fireworks show was staged in an unprecedentedly massive scale in the region. Four barges and 16 special-effect launching platforms were set up to launch 160,000 fireworks shells along with the debut incorporation of unmanned boats and drones into the show. Merged with the effects of laser, light and music, the magnificent and innovative show opened the eyes of spectators and added a splash of radiant color to the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao SAR.
The “Macao-Zhuhai Fireworks Show in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Macao’s Handover to the Motherland” was jointly organized by the Macao SAR Government and the Mainland, and coordinated by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the Administrative Committee of Hengqin New Area. Innovative ideas of cross-territory collaboration were adopted to present the largest-ever splendid fireworks extravaganza in the region blended with a diversity of new elements. Representing unity and celebration, bliss and prosperity, the show immersed residents and visitors in the festive joy brought by the Handover Anniversary.
