The first line of Macao Light Rapid Transit (MLRT), in Taipa, is officially put into use on 10th December, 2019, offering new travel options to the public. To mark this new chapter in the development of Macao, Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau will issue the stamp theme “Taipa Line Operation – Macao Light Rapid Transit” at the same date. This issue includes a set of two stamps an d one souvenir sheet.
The MLRT features the characteristics of “Convenient, Eco-friendly, Accessible”: it adopts fully-automatic control system and has its own rails to run, offering a faster and more punctual service; driven by electricity and driven by rubber-tyred running on elevated railways, the MLRT has the environmental advantages of zero emission and low operating noise; accessible facilities has been incorporated into stations and trains to cater for different travelling needs.
The MLRT Taipa Line is about 9.3 km in length, it consists of 11 stations. The line covers the main residential communities in the city centre in Taipa, Taipa old village and tourist area and links with three major sea, land and air ports of Macao. With the extension of the MLRT in the future, it is expected to attract more residents make use of public transportation and to play a more important role in the overall land transport of Macao, improving the overall public transportation environment of the city.
The above issue will be available for sale at the General Post Office and the Communications Museum, from 9:00a.m. to 5:30p.m., the “Rua do Campo” Post Office, from 9:00a.m. to 7:00p.m., the Maritime Ferry Terminal Post Office, from 11:00a.m. to 6:00p.m., and the Airport Post Office, from 10:00a.m. to 7:00p.m. The mail service for the relative philatelic products cancelled with the commemorative postmark will be available on the issue date at the above locations. The philatelic products are as follows:
250,000 stamps with the face value of 2.50 patacas
250,000 stamps with the face value of 4.00 patacas
250,000 souvenir sheets with the face value of 12.00 patacas
6,000 FDC @ 6.00 patacas
6,000 FDC/SS @ 6.00 patacas
4,500 information brochures @ 7.00 patacas
The selling price for one set of two stamps is 6.50 patacas, the first day cover with stamps (FDC) is 12.50 patacas, the first day cover with souvenir sheet (FDC/SS) is 18.00 patacas, the information brochure with stamps is 13.50 patacas and the information brochure with souvenir sheet is 19.00 patacas.
Besides the above philatelic products, the presentation pack with the theme “Taipa Line Operation – Macao Light Rapid Transit” will also be released. This pack contains one set of two stamps, one souvenir sheet, one first day cover with stamps and one first day cover with souvenir sheet, it is priced at MOP100.00.
The stamp designer of this issue is Mr. Lio Hak Man, and the text of the information brochure is written by the Macao Light Rapid Transit Corporation, Limited.
