The University of Macau (UM) on 20 November (next Wednesday) will hold a lecture titled ‘The Architecture of African Swine Fever Virus (ASFV) and the Implications for Viral Assembly and Vaccine Design’. Rao Zihe, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and a renowned biophysicist and structural biologist, will be the keynote speaker. During the talk, Rao will share with the audience the latest developments in the studies of ASFV’s architecture, the implications for viral assembly, as well as vaccine design for ASFV. The talk will be open to the public. All are welcome.

Rao is a professor at Tsinghua University and Nankai University. He is also a member of the presidium of the CAS and a former president of Nankai University. His main research focus are pathogenic infectious agents. His work has provided groundbreaking insights into viral infection, replication and assembly, energy and metabolite transport, drug resistance, and cell wall synthesis in Mycobacteria tuberculosis. His most recent work on ASFV, picornaviruses, herpesvirus, and Mycobacteria tuberculosis (TB) provided much-needed structural data for the design and development of new anti-viral and anti-TB drugs.

The talk will start at 4:30pm, in Room G013, Research Building (N21), UM. It will be conducted in English. For registration, please visit https://isw.um.edu.mo/evm/register/rao.
