Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles totalled 238,666 as at end-August 2019, a slight increase of 121 year-on-year; light automobiles (108,422) and heavy motorcycles (98,421) rose by 0.8% and 1.9% respectively, whereas light motorcycles (24,413) went down by 8.8%. New registration of motor vehicles in August dropped by 4.8% year-on-year to 1,122, with light automobiles (405) falling by 25.8% while heavy motorcycles (635) rising by 11.4%. In the first eight months of 2019, new registration of motor vehicles decreased by 18.7% year-on-year to 7,966. Number of traffic accidents went up by 19.6% year-on-year to 1,578 in August, and number of injuries totalled 504. In the first eight months, there were 8,915 traffic accidents; number of victims totalled 2,946 and 5 of them were killed.

Cross-border vehicular traffic in August increased by 10.9% year-on-year to 458,500 trips. Vehicular trips passing through the Checkpoint of Cotai (147,219) rose by 7.5%, whereas those going through the Border Gate (270,630) inched down by 0.9%; besides, there were 37,546 trips crossing the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. In the first eight months of 2019, cross-border vehicular traffic went up by 8.2% year-on-year to 3,517,562 trips. Commercial flights at the Macau International Airport totalled 6,638 trips in August, a growth of 20.5% year-on-year; trips to and from mainland China (2,762) and Taiwan (1,243) showed respective increases of 31.8% and 13.9%. Inbound and outbound commercial flights in the first eight months rose by 19.5% year-on-year to 48,753 trips.

Gross weight of containerized cargo by land in August soared by 80.3% year-on-year to 2,101 tonnes, of which cargo passing through the Checkpoint of Cotai amounted to 1,958 tonnes, an upsurge of 88.1%. Meanwhile, gross weight of port containerized cargo decreased by 19.9% to 12,456 tonnes, with cargo being handled at the Inner Harbour (6,311 tonnes) and the Ká-Hó Harbour (6,145 tonnes) dropping by 29.0% and 7.9% respectively year-on-year. In the first eight months, gross weight of containerized cargo by land expanded by 28.5% year-on-year to 12,195 tonnes, while that of port containerized cargo fell by 11.2% to 97,561 tonnes.

The Macau International Airport handled 3,480 tonnes of air cargo in August, an increase of 18.6% year-on-year; gross weight of outward cargo (2,429 tonnes) surged by 34.6%, while that of inward cargo (606 tonnes) and transit cargo (445 tonnes) decreased by 0.7% and 14.1% respectively. In the first eight months, air cargo edged up by 0.6% year-on-year to 25,127 tonnes.

As at the end of August 2019, there were 118,963 fixed-line telephone subscribers and 2,084,712 mobile phone subscribers, down by 6.3% and 9.3% respectively year-on-year. Internet subscribers rose by 7.5% to 569,285 and the duration of internet usage in August increased by 29.1% to 133 million hours. Total duration of usage stood at 1.04 billion hours in the first eight months, a growth of 26.1% year-on-year.
