Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise export for July 2019 amounted to MOP1.04 billion, up by 13.6% year-on-year. Value of re-exports (MOP918 million) increased by 16.0%, with that of Beauty, cosmetic & skin-care products and Diamond & diamond jewellery surging by 230.6% and 166.1% respectively. However, value of domestic exports (MOP124 million) declined by 1.7%, with that of Copper & articles thereof falling by 36.2%. Total merchandise import fell by 3.2% year-on-year to MOP7.20 billion, of which imports of Mobile phones, Construction materials and Gold jewellery dropped by 54.4%, 41.1% and 22.9% respectively; meanwhile, imports of Beauty, cosmetic & skin-care products and Food & beverages increased by 41.2% and 19.6% respectively. Merchandise trade deficit in July totalled MOP6.16 billion.
From January to July 2019, total value of merchandise export increased by 4.7% year-on-year to MOP7.44 billion, of which value of re-exports (MOP6.65 billion) grew by 7.5% but that of domestic exports (MOP798 million) declined by 14.1%. Total value of merchandise import fell by 2.2% year-on-year to MOP49.48 billion. Merchandise trade deficit reached MOP42.04 billion for the first seven months of 2019, a decrease of MOP1.45 billion compared with MOP43.49 billion a year earlier.
Analysed by destination, merchandise export to mainland China decreased by 21.7% year-on-year to MOP929 million from January to July 2019, of which exports to the Nine Provinces of the Pan Pearl River Delta (MOP888 million) declined by 23.2%. Meanwhile, exports to Hong Kong (MOP4.89 billion), the EU (MOP121 million) and the USA (MOP112 million) grew by 10.4%, 0.2% and 31.7% respectively. Exports to the Belt and Road Countries (MOP132 million) and the Portuguese-speaking Countries (MOP0.98 million) fell by 8.4% and 96.0% respectively. Exports of Textiles & garments totalled MOP553 million, up by 42.7%. Exports of Non-textiles went up by 2.5% year-on-year to MOP6.89 billion, of which value of Beauty, cosmetic & skin-care products (MOP362 million) soared by 326.2%, but that of Articles for casino (MOP142 million) dropped by 43.5%.
By place of origin, merchandise import from mainland China (MOP16.49 billion) decreased by 5.4% year-on-year in the first seven months of 2019. On the other hand, imports from the EU (MOP13.52 billion), the Belt and Road Countries (MOP7.78 billion) and the Portuguese-speaking Countries (MOP506 million) increased by 6.5%, 97.0% and 10.3% respectively. Analysed by place of consignment, merchandise import from mainland China grew by 4.3% year-on-year to MOP7.92 billion, of which imports from the Nine Provinces of the Pan Pearl River Delta (MOP7.70 billion) rose by 5.0%. Imports of Consumer goods went up by 6.6% to MOP34.55 billion, with imports of Beauty, cosmetic & skin-care products (MOP3.48 billion) and Footwear (MOP1.49 billion) rising by 35.9% and 23.9% respectively. Imports of Fuels & lubricants (MOP4.11 billion) held stable as in July 2018. Meanwhile, imports of Mobile phones (MOP2.56 billion) and Construction materials (MOP842 million) declined by 37.3% and 33.2% respectively.
External merchandise trade totalled MOP56.93 billion from January to July 2019, down by 1.4% compared with MOP57.71 billion a year earlier.
