Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles totalled 238,010 as at end-May, up slightly by 0.1% year-on-year; light automobiles (107,929) and heavy motorcycles (97,819) increased by 1.0% and 2.0% respectively. New registration of motor vehicles in May decreased by 16.6% year-on-year to 887, with light automobiles (416) and heavy motorcycles (408) falling by 13.5% and 22.0% respectively. In the first five months of 2019, new registration of motor vehicles declined by 24.2% year-on-year to 4,887. Number of traffic accidents rose by 6.1% year-on-year to 1,075 in May, involving 371 victims and 1 of them was killed. In the first five months, there were 5,191 traffic accidents and 1,799 traffic casualties.

Cross-border vehicular traffic in May grew by 9.5% year-on-year to 455,145 trips. Vehicular trips passing through the Checkpoint of Cotai (134,529) rose by 7.6%, whereas those going through the Border Gate (284,479) inched down by 0.9%; besides, there were 32,937 trips crossing the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. In the first five months of 2019, cross-border vehicular traffic grew by 7.0% year-on-year to 2,163,012 trips. Commercial flights at the Macau International Airport totalled 6,245 trips in May, up by 23.3% year-on-year; trips to and from mainland China (2,722) and Taiwan (1,064) saw increases of 39.4% and 7.2% respectively. Inbound and outbound commercial flights in the first five months grew by 18.8% year-on-year to 29,590 trips.

Gross weight of containerized cargo by land in May fell by 20.5% year-on-year to 1,380 tonnes, of which cargo passing through the Checkpoint of Cotai dropped by 21.9% to 1,308 tonnes. Inward and outward laden containers by land totalled 258, up by 11.2%. In the first five months, gross weight of containerized cargo by land increased by 29.0% year-on-year to 7,353 tonnes, with laden containers rising by 18.3% to 1,133.

As regards sea cargo, gross weight of containerized cargo dropped by 10.4% year-on-year to 13,032 tonnes in May, with cargo being handled at the Inner Harbour (6,992 tonnes) decreasing by 10.9%; meanwhile, port laden container throughput edged up by 0.9% year-on-year to 8,353 TEU, equivalent to 5,607 containers handled, an increase of 1.5%. In the first five months, gross weight of seaborne containerized cargo fell by 4.9% year-on-year to 61,997 tonnes; port laden container throughput totalled 37,587 TEU, equivalent to 25,239 containers handled, down by 2.1% and 1.8% respectively.

The Macau International Airport handled 3,119 tonnes of air cargo in May, a decrease of 9.4% year-on-year; gross weight of outward cargo (2,134 tonnes) and transit cargo (417 tonnes) fell by 6.3% and 36.8% respectively, whereas that of inward cargo (568 tonnes) grew by 12.6%. In the first five months, air cargo dropped by 5.4% year-on-year to 15,240 tonnes.

As at the end of May 2019, there were 121,146 fixed-line telephone subscribers and 2,131,748 mobile phone subscribers, down by 5.9% and 10.2% respectively year-on-year. Internet subscribers rose by 6.9% to 559,434 and the duration of internet usage in May surged by 37.9% to 141 million hours. Total duration of usage amounted to 651 million hours in the first five months, a growth of 26.5% year-on-year.
