Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the 5 hospitals in Macao provided a total of 1,604 in-patient beds in 2018, up by 8 year-on-year. Number of in-patients increased by 2.2% year-on-year to 60,000, with the average hospital stay rising by 0.2 day to 7.2 days. The occupany rate of in-patient beds grew by 3.6 percentage points to 74.4%, owing to the increases in the number of in-patients and the average hospital stay.

Hospital out-patient attendances increased by 5.3% year-on-year to 1,788,000, of which consultations in Internal Medicine (285,000) accounted for 15.9%, followed by those in Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation (247,000) and General Surgery (197,000), constituting 13.8% and 11.0% respectively.

Emergency attendances decreased by 1.7% year-on-year to 465,000. Emergency attendances in the Macao Peninsula (361,000) dropped by 2.2% year-on-year; those in Taipa (104,000) edged down by 0.1%, marking the fifth consecutive year of decline since 2014. Meanwhile, cases of dialysis treatments saw the ninth successive year of growth, up by 11.5% year-on-year to 111,000.

There were 687 primary health care establishments (including public health centres, private clinics, etc.) in 2018, down by 15 year-on-year. Total number of consultations dropped by 1.9% year-on-year to 3,935,000, of which consultations in government health establishments increased by 5.3% to 897,000. Consultations in General Practice decreased by 2.6% year-on-year to 1,134,000, making up 28.8% of the total, followed by those in Chinese Medicine (1,074,000) and Stomatology/Odontology (275,000), comprising 27.3% and 7.0% respectively.

A total of 377,000 doses of vaccine were administered in hospitals and primary health care establishments in 2018, up by 3.3% year-on-year; vaccinations against Influenza totalled 161,000 doses.

Number of blood donations rose by 4.1% year-on-year to 14,867, with 3,203 first-time blood donations. A total of 10,764 persons donated blood in 2018, an increase of 3.6% year-on-year.

According to the administrative data provided by the Health Bureau, there were 1,754 doctors and 2,464 nurses in Macao in 2018, up by 1.4% and 2.8% respectively year-on-year. Number of doctors and nurses per 1,000 population was 2.6 and 3.7 respectively.
