In order to celebrate the Lunar New Year and promote the traditional local Lunar New Year culture, the Macao Museum, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, presents the “Spring Festival Thematic Exhibition in Macao”, to be held at the Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre from 15 February to 18 March. Admission is free.
The exhibition is supported by local collector Sam Wai Lon, who has loaned over 30 items from his collection, including red envelopes (laisi), calendar posters, candy boxes, money boxes and Chinese New Year publications for children, among others. The items are divided in three sections, namely Chinese New Year Supplies, Festive Promotional Materials and Children’s Toys, to show the public how people used to celebrate the Spring Festival in Macao in the last century.
The Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre, located on Avenida Dr. Sun Yat Sen, is open daily from 10am to 6pm, including on 16 February (the first day of the Lunar New Year) and public holidays, but is closed on Fridays.
