Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the overall residential property price index in the fourth quarter of 2017 grew by 0.7% quarter-to-quarter to 258.0, which marked the seventh consecutive quarter of growth, and yet represented a slowdown from the 1.3% increase in the third quarter of 2017. The index for the Macao Peninsula (260.0) rose by 1.1%, while that for Taipa & Coloane (248.7) dropped by 1.6%.

The index for existing residential units (271.4) went up by 2.9% quarter-to-quarter, with the indices for the Macao Peninsula (257.3) and Taipa & Coloane (335.5) rising by 3.4% and 1.2% respectively. In terms of year of building completion, the indices for existing residential units built more than 20 years ago (266.7) and for those completed between 11 and 20 years ago (277.4) registered larger increases of 4.3% and 3.8% respectively, while the index for those built within 5 years or less (231.7) went down by 1.3%. The index for pre-sale residential units (243.6) fell by 6.6% quarter-to-quarter.

Analysed by usable floor area, the index for residential units with a usable floor area less than 50 square metres (249.7) decreased by 3.0% quarter-to-quarter, while the index for those with a floor area between 50 and 74.9 square metres (286.6) increased by 1.3%.

In 2017, the overall residential property price index was 252.8, up by 15.3% year-on-year; the indices for the Macao Peninsula (254.0) and Taipa & Coloane (247.7) rose by 14.4% and 19.7% respectively. The indices for existing residential units (260.9) and pre-sale residential units (246.3) increased by 16.0% and 22.7% respectively year-on-year.
