The Government will continue to join hands with the people of Macao to enhance quality of life for all, and further to share the fruits of development, the Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, said today.
In the coming Year of the Rooster, the Government would – fuelled by the collective aspiration for a more prosperous Macao – step up efforts to promote economic diversification and enhance social wellbeing, according to carefully crafted policies, Mr Chui said.
Mr Chui’s remarks were included in his Lunar New Year Message for the Year of the Rooster, delivered today.
Mr Chui visited last week a local neighbourhood to have a better grasp of people’s livelihoods. The visit allowed Mr Chui to experience Macao people’s joyful spirit and strong community ties.
This week, Mr Chui visited several stalls ran by young entrepreneurs at a local Lunar New Year fair. Mr Chui expressed his support for an enterprising and innovative youth that welcomes challenges, namely those related to starting a business. The visit allowed Mr Chui to interact with people from all walks of life and of all ages, who shared with him their enthusiasm for a harmonious and stable society.
Reviewing the achievements accomplished in the Year of the Monkey, Mr Chui noted that the Government had completed the formulation of Macao’s first ever Five-Year Development Plan. The Government also had been able to maintain Macao’s economic and social stability and its strong fiscal reserves, while prioritising projects concerning enhancement of social wellbeing. Mr Chui stressed that the strong support from the Central Government – as well as the concerted efforts of all members of the Macao community – were indispensable factors in the city’s ongoing achievements.
Mr Chui said that all should share with their families and people in need the joy and warmth of this festive season.
The Chief Executive extended his sincere gratitude to all those workers – in the private and public sectors – involved in keeping essential services operating during the holidays.
On behalf of the Government, the Chief Executive wished everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous Year of the Rooster.
