A student from the University of Macau’s (UM) Youth Association of International Affairs (YAIA) recently received an outstanding representative award at Beijing Model United Nations 2016, which was hosted by the China Foreign Affairs University. Led by Prof Song Weiqing from UM’s Department of Government and Public Administration, the UM delegation participated in several mock UN meetings, including those of the United Nations Economic and Social Council, the Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations, the UN Refugee Agency, the Commission on the Status of Women, and the Media and Press Centre. Beijing Model United Nations is the largest model UN conference in China and the Asia-Pacific region. This year’s event attracted over 400 students from more than 70 universities and high schools in various countries, including China, Russia, and Cambodia. UM is the only university from Macao to participate in the event.
