The 26th Macao Arts Festival (MAF) organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau has commissioned Aerodynamics, which will be staged in Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium this Saturday (9th May). Lin Wen-Chung, hailed as a ‘Superb Dancer’ by The Village Voice in New York, choreographed the dance. Performers also include Chan Chi Cheng, a Macao dancer trained in Taiwan. Following the debut in this edition of Macao Arts Festival it will be presented in Taiwan to allow interaction between Macao and Taiwanese dancers.
Aerodynamics is inspired by the principles of aerodynamics in aeronautical science. By presenting the confrontation between human desire and gravity, dancers will launch a contest with turbulence to construct different dynamic movements in the air. Through the reorganisation of the stereoscopic dimension of space and time, dancers carefully observes the details of muscle movement and demonstrate the tangible body image of rising, temporary staying, constant speed, gliding, flipping, floating, etc. with a smooth, tactful Oriental approach highlighting the concept of air, generating infinite room for imagination. The dance will be performed ceaselessly for some 70 minutes to illustrate the effect of science and creativity, bringing forth a fresh feast of art.
A number of magnificent dramas, dance and music performances will be presented this weekend. Macao Youth Repertory Theatre will stage Phaedra 2.0-Desires and Lies; the French tour de force Phaedra directed by Tang Shu Wing ‘The Master of Minimalistic Theatre’ will be performed in the form of physical theatre - this is absolutely appealing. The Macao Chinese Orchestra will render the Musical Dreams of Pilgrimage to the West, the first work from Mainland China that amazingly mingles folk music and theatre; the unique charm of folk music will blossom following the development of the theatrical plot.
An additional show of Tale of the Pipa presented by the Macao General Association of Cantonese Opera and Music will be performed on 11th May due to overwhelming response. Drama Fateful Decision won its playwright first prize at the 10th Macao Literature Competition, Theatre Category; local elites have been commissioned by Macao Arts Festival to give their best in the production. Only a limited number of tickets are available for the aforementioned performances. Interested audiences won’t want to miss them.
