Results of survey on manpower needs and wages for the 4th quarter 2014 Gaming sector

The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) released survey results of Manpower Needs and Wages of the Gaming Sector for the fourth quarter of 2014. Survey coverage excludes junket promoters and junket associates.

At the end of the fourth quarter of 2014, the Gaming Sector had 58,524 persons engaged, up by 3.4% year-on-year; there were 25,752 dealers, up by 2.0% year-on-year.

In December 2014, average earnings (excluding bonuses and allowances) of full-time employees stood at MOP20,680, up by 8.2% year-on-year. Average earnings of dealers amounted to MOP18,000, up by 7.7% year-on-year.

Job vacancies totalled 841 at the end of the fourth quarter of 2014, down substantially by 1,145 year-on-year. There were 180 vacancies for dealers, down significantly by 884.

In terms of recruitment prerequisites, 36.1% of the vacancies required working experience; 31.7% required junior secondary education or lower, and requirement for knowledge of Mandarin and English stood at 89.4% and 66.5% respectively.

In the fourth quarter of 2014, the Gaming Sector hired 1,968 new employees. The employee recruitment rate (3.4%) and the job vacancy rate (1.4%) decreased by 2.9 and 2.0 percentage points respectively year-on-year, indicating that the human resource situation of the Gaming Sector was relatively stable this quarter.

As regards vocational training, a total of 23,296 participants attended training courses provided by the gaming enterprise (including courses organized by the enterprise or in conjunction with other institutions, and those sponsored by the enterprise). The majority (47.8%) of the participants attended courses in Gaming & Entertainment Services, followed by Business & Administration (26.7%). About 98.0% of the participants attended courses organized by the gaming enterprise, and almost all participants were employer-sponsored.
